Here at GNR, we’re big advocates for the RV lifestyle. Why wouldn’t we be? Every day brings places to explore and people to meet, and because there’s no one right way to RV, there’s room for all kinds of people.
That also means RVers are bursting with stories and advice to share.
Introducing How You RV, a new monthly series all about regular RVers and their stories. We started with Alex and Angela — next time, we want to hear from you. Share your story, your advice, and your passion for RVing. Click here to tell us how you RV.
Now let’s see what Alex and Angela has to say!
What got you into RVing?
After tenting for many years and one summer full of rainstorms and flooded tents, we decided it was time for an upgrade. We started with a tent trailer, and it was a game-changer. Being off the ground and having a furnace and fridge made our camping trips easier and more comfortable to say the least. After seven years with the pop-up, we decided to upgrade again to a travel trailer that our 2018 Pathfinder could haul easily.
Any fun stories?
One time, a customer of ours was in the same bay as us. They brought over some of the best cheesy potatoes we have ever had. Angela and I love running into customers at the campground and seeing them enjoy their trailer in real time.
Another time, we attempted a hike in Spruce Woods and decided to go the way of the steep lookout. We really did not know what we were in for. As we turned one corner, we saw a vertical incline up a sand dune that seemed to go on forever! It was out of our comfort zone, but we were encouraged by others attempting the climb. Once we were at the top, it was well worth it.
Any advice to share?
My advice, especially for first-timers, is to take things slow. Most people are nervous about backing into their unit at a campground. Just remember, you are not the only one. It takes lots of practice and patience to get good at it. Always have a spotter, and talk about where you want the trailer first before you start so you are on the same page. There are great videos on YouTube that I found very helpful in the beginning. You will be a pro in no time!
Where do you go visit?
We love the Grand Beach, Hecla, Spruce Woods, and Winnipeg Beach campgrounds. The goal is to one day go much further and road trip around Canada and the US!
Best part of the RV lifestyle? Getting out of the city and into nature. Everyone is in a good mood at the campground, and there is always a feeling of freedom when you hit the road.
